The student’s main job will be the digital simulation and practical implementation of control systems, where the controller is designed using the controller identification method. Simulation of the control systems are going to be done using MATLAB / SIMULINK, and practical implementation are going to be in the didactic processes from Lascar. Different control performances need to be tested:

– Minimum variance control, where the controller is designed for reducing the noise present in the output of the plant.
– Model reference control for multivariable systems, where the controller design needs to take account the interactions between the variables.
– Model reference control for nonminimum phase systems, where the reference model must contain the nonminimum phase zeros of the plant so the controller identified based on this reference model is not unstable.

The student must be familiar with basic systems theory (Systems and Signals) and must be motivated to link control theory to practice.
