The delta operator is an alternative to the shift operator commonly used for representation of sampled-data systems. It has a number of well-known conceptual and numerical advantages and some very convenient implications of its use in identification are also well described. This MSc project consists of applying IFT in controllers described with the delta operator.

The student will follow courses on Linear Systems, Control Theory, Optimization and System Identification. His/her work will include the implementation in MatLab/Simulink of IFT using the delta operator, and assessment of the performance of the method with respect to its convergence, precision, and computational cost, particularly in comparison with a “classical” implementation of IFT (that is, using the shift operator).
